Dehu-Aalandi-Pandharpur Payi Yatra

Very Exiciting Mansoon arived. In Maharashtra the Agri Farmers and common people are get busy in Cultivation of their Farms. Just after cultivation, Pandharpur foot procession (payee Yatra-Wari) atracts these peoples. Alandi-Pandharpur Yatra Asia’s largest pilgrimage, is undertaken by many people in Maharashtra and several parts of India. The procession has the history of Eight Centuries. Near about 150 palkhies comes here from various parts of the country from North and South mainly. Sant Dnyaneshwar and Sant Tukaram Palkhi Procession take place every year in the Hindu month of Aashad (June& July),

and Sant Tukram starts from Dehu.

On the eleventh day of the first half of the month the Palkhi reaches their destination holy Pandharpur On the eve of ‘Ashadhi Ekadashi’ the most important Hindu festivals celebrated on a large scale in both North and South India in the Hindu month of Ashadh Shukla Paksha.

The eleventh day (bright moon) of the Hindu month of Ashadh is known as Maha Ekadashi or’Devayani Ekadashi’ because , it is suposed that, on this day Lord Vishnu, will go to sleep and will only awaken from deep slumber after four months on Prabodhini Ekadashi in the month of Kartik (the hindu month). These four months period is known as known as ‘Chaturmasa’.
It consists of a beautifully decorated Palkhi having the “padukas” of the lord and the Palkhi procession consists of people collectively walking, singing and dancing the glory of the Lord in what are called as ‘Dindis’. This custom of taking out a holy procession is said to have started in 1810.
This year the palkhi procession will be start on 10th of June and reaches Pandharpur on 30th June.

Dnyaneshwar Maharaj Palkhi Yatra starts from Alandi . Halts for Paayi Yatra are schudeled as fixed, they are at Pune, Saswad, Jejuri, Walha, Lonad, Phaltan, Barad, Natepute, Malshiras, Taradgaon, Bhandi-Shegaon, Velapu, Varkhari ( Here in Vakhari the Palkhis of Sant Dyaneshwar Maharaj and Sant Tukaram Maharaj meet ), and Pandharpur. The Yatra goes as schedule but some variation may take place that allow days of rest in route. Several NGO’s and private people work to facilite with comforts to the Varkaris.

Sant Tukarm Maharaj Palkhi

Sant tukaram Maharaj Palkhi starts from Dehu Village and reaches Pandharpur. The route is Akurdi, kapilPune, Lonikalbhor,Yavat, Varvand, Baramati, Indapur, Akluj, Wakhri and Pandharapur.In this procession a vide range of people from all cumminity with social or economic background flows in Ocean of Warkaries to worship with devotion. Palkhi Procession Schudule
The pilgrims are called as ‘Warkaris’ and they walk in groups, each group is called as ‘Dindi’. The Journey from Dehu and Alandi to Pandharpur is called as ‘Wari’. The Warkaris walk nearabout 450 kilometres during their Wari from Dehu Aalandi to reach Pandharpur and worship the Lord Vitthoba.
The time table of Palkhi is well defined and strictly to be followed by each one. Early morning after taking Darshan of Padukas takes off Exactly at Six O’clock. A Tutari (one type of Instrument )Blown three times

First : For Getting ready to Leave.
Second : For Getting ready to Dindis to Stand in Que for Procession.
Third : The Procession Starts
After walking for 4-5 Km the procession halts for Break fast . Then later on the procession halts for Lunch. Here first offering for Lord Vithoba take place. Another halt for Tea around 4-4.30 pm and exactly at Sunset the procession halts for Camp or rest for night.

At last Waari comes to end on today,(30 June Ashdhi Ekadshi) might be end on Yesterday. The Waarkaries today worships Lord Vithoba Mauli, Vithala, with great happiness and a Joyful tears in the eyes, with a request to Vithoba to fulfil their Desires and give Salvation from their Sines which may be happened knowingly or unknowingly and Empower them to face the Life Truths for upcoming future.
